January 4, 2007: As the kids are still out of school for winter break, I took them for the day to Valencia, CA for parks and shopping. We all had a craving for Popeye's chicken for lunch and stopped at the one on Erringer Rd. in Simi Valley. Found 4 pennies there.
A stop at Starbuck's on McBean Parkway in Valencia... found a nickel in front of the store. Ajay found a quarter in a USA Today box near the Starbuck's. At Heritage Park, we watched a couple of high school football players practice passes and receptions, and a funny thing happened... One of the boys had a younger brother who enjoyed playing pranks on his big brother. Seems the big brother had this pouch for keeping his wallet, coins, keys and cellphone. He left it on the bench under his sweatshirt. The younger brother decided to try to swipe it. Upon snatching pouch, the kid spilled the contents of the pouch. The older brother raced over to pulverize the kid, but luckily the little guy fled before "getting it." Bills and coins all over the sidewalk. The older brother only bothered to pick-up the bills and left the coins. I watched this incident from about 50 yards away as my kids and I were practicing soccer dribbles and passing. After our play, we found three quarters, a nickel and three pennies under that bench.
After the park, we went to McDonald's on McBean Parkway for an early dinner. I found a penny next to our parking space. Passing the vending machine for The Signal paper, I found 2 quarters. Ajay found a penny in the restaurant. Our last find -- a stop for gas at the ARCO on Lyon's Rd. -- in the rain -- and I found a penny near the pump.
